I have owned my own business remodeling homes for 3 years. Before this, I have had many difference jobs in almost all aspects of construction. I never knew what I wanted to do for a career, but when I started my business, I’ve never found more joy in my work. One thing I enjoy most, is being able to put my own creativity into someone’s home, and seeing their satisfaction. This customer came to me as a referral from a past customer.
One challenge from this project, is the same as with the majority of my projects. There are always differences in opinions between the customer and the contractor. Sometimes the customer wants something done that either isn’t a good idea, or wouldn’t look good. It is my job to help the customer to achieve satisfaction with the product, and at the same time, accomplish everything they want to have done. Most of this project turned out fine, but I would have changed the color of the back splash we used. I don’t feel that it looked good with the rest of the kitchen. Another challenge was that the customer had the countertop cut with a gap along the back edge. He said the reason was so it could fit backsplash behind it. I’ve never seen that done. The gap was about 1 ¼ inches big, and the backsplash is only 3/8 inch thick, so even with the tile on the wall, there was still a visible gap. So I had to find a creative way to fill that gap and make it look good.
